Just another weekend...

Another birthday passes, this year without incident. Usually, we go to the cabin for the long weekend, but parents are finally empty- nesters and have flown the coop for sunnier climes. We could have gone without them, but it wouldn't have been the same, especially without Dad. He does such a great job of preparing for everyone's visit...without him, it's just too much work! Realizing that makes me more grateful for all he does...I'll have to remember to thank him when he gets back!

Being home for the weekend allowed us to get some badly needed chores done around the house. And for once, the weather, was nice! May 24 weekend is infamous for its nasty weather, but this weekend was the exception. Here is the demolition crew at work, dealing with sections of the fence that had fallen down during a winter storm:

And here is Lily, ever helpful:

In my puttering, I came across the forgotten hosta; you can see the new growth peeking out from underneath its winter cover...

Me, I had some time to hook on the Yahoo Rughookers swap piece (a little unfair, I hear you think, since everyone was working so hard, but it was my birthday weekend!):

I like how the swap mat is progressing, and Dad's form and the kayak can actually be distinguished...sweet!

Note to self: please remember to hook a row of edging around the perimeter of the piece before doing anything with the mat (I did know this, I don't know why I didn't do this); otherwise, you end up trying to hook around this:

Just a tad bit annoying!

Enjoy your week, everyone!

Last Saturday was National Scrapbooking Day, and although I had some time to poke around the net for the celebrations, I didn't have any time for scrapbooking. I had a very important date...

Spent the day at Nathan's basketball tournament. Also missed the spring hook-in, but it was worth it to see him play.

All day, however, I got hourly emails from Big Picture Classes, with challenges to incorporate in your scrapbooking. In typical me fashion, I was able to give some of those challenges a go on Tuesday! This layout

features a photo with a fanciful frame (challenge #1), and used baker's twine to frame the page (bonus challenge #1). It also features a butterfly with twine (challenge #4).

I'd just finished looking at an Art Journal mag, and an article about negative shapes, so I used the cutout of the butterfly as a stencil on the page, misting with ink and alcohol solution.

Love the cute flower stamp I used on the journalling corner...

This was my first foray into scrapbooking in many a month; it's been far too long since I'd done it...I'd forgotten how much I enjoy playing with paper and stuff. I also like the time I spend just thinking about the page

This week, I'm going to try another layout, incorporating another of the Big Picture Classes challenges...I hope!

I am one lucky mama!

What a great Mother's Day I had....gifted with 3 of my favorite things: a new magazine, a digital Scrapbooking class, and chocolate!

Cute tin, too!

Spent the morning hooking...

Had brunch cooked for me, and now my crew, lead by their fearless father, is preparing supper...

I have to thank the creatures who gave of themselves so we could have this bounty...

The way Lily is "helping", though, we might have to settle for just steak...

Nathan was great all day, so helpful to Craig and me...

In all, a fantastic Mother's Day...the only drawback is that I can't hope to top this for Father's Day! I hope your day was everything you needed it to be!

Mini Maggie swap

I've love the Magnolia stamps. I feel a bit intimidated by the card designs that seem to go with these stamps, loads of layers and embellishments. They look wonderful, but it's not me...I prefer a more clean and simple style. Besides, I would never be able to give those beauties away! I know how long it takes me to make up a simple card...it would take me forever to do one in the traditional Magnolia style.

This rubber stamp company has another line of mini magnolias (smaller stamped images), and I ordered a few so I could participate in a new swap. The Edwin Fishing is the stamped image

I like using stamps like Edwin; gives me a reason to get out some of my Copic markers (skin: E000, E21; hair: E29, E25; shirt: YR02, E13; overalls: B24, B95; water: B91; fly: YR04)

It's been a while since I colored anything; I'd forgotten how fun it is!

Vintage Vogue and a classic sketch

Just playing around with my favorite stamp set, Vintage Vogue,
and a classic sketch from Mojo Monday.

Same layout, different color...
I prefer the deeper color, so I did a couple, and put a little dent in my retired SU! paper stash...bonus!

Seasonal swap-spring!

Jean was the recipient of this swap...spring reminds me of the birds that continue to return to the tree by our driveway. Despite the noise and disturbance of kids at play, they return every year to the nest in that tree.

Is it the same bird that returns, year after year? Or does the original owner "rent" out her space to another?
